AAMRI membership criteria

To be a member of AAMRI, an institute must:

  • be established primarily for the conduct of health and medical research
  • be independent, for example, established via an Act of Parliament or incorporated under the Companies Act
  • have an independent board of management; a majority of board members not appointed by any single other institution (eg an affiliated hospital or university)
  • have a director or equivalent who is a distinguished scientist, appointed by the board of management. The director's salary funding is not dependent upon the NHMRC 
  • have an affiliation with a university or with a hospital, or institutions providing health services. These affiliations will be paralleled by significant research or clinical interactions with the affiliated institutions
  • have a substantial record of attracting research funding from competitive mechanisms
  • have a written policy supporting (or statements of compliance with) all relevant NHMRC guidelines and specifically those relating to good scientific practice and ethical research

Membership Fees

Membership costs are: $500 per Institute and $50 per FTE (full-time equivalent) member of staff.

Step 1. If you satisfy the eligibility criteria above, please fill out the application form and e-mail it to b.granath@victorchang.edu.au. Please also email a PDF copy of your institute's latest Annual Report.

Step 2. Applications to join AAMRI will be reviewed by the AAMRI Membership Subcommittee as soon as possible.
